| Beginner ![]() | Yaminabe Aries for Dirty Foreigners Yaminabe Aries for Dirty Foreigners By Dunkinbean DELICIOUS KITTIES I MUST HAVE THEM Yaminabe Aries (é—‡é‹Aries) is a PC game developed by the Japanese software company Circus. It is notable for containing the elusive furry game "Tail Tale", which has been sought after by the western furry community for some time now. Being released in the year 2000 and only in Japan has it's caused it's availability to be virtually non-existent. Thanks entirely to the help of a weeaboo friend of mine, I was able to track down a copy of the game on the Japanese P2P program Share (thanks again, Phil!). The game is playable on western computers running XP, however it requires some voodoo magic beyond the standard "double clicking the install file" routine. This is where this guide comes in, so those who are not as computer literate or have no experence in this area can still play. This procedure may work for users running Vista, however I do not have a Vista machine to test it on so I can't say either way. It should be pointed out this is not a translation. It's here merely so it can be finally distributed among the furry community; this is only for the curious and those who have an understanding of how to read Japanese. With any luck though, it's increased availability may spur a translation project. I have split up the initial 589mb rar file into 2 pieces so it can be distributed easily over file uploading services like Megaupload. A torrent would be easier in this regard, however, considering the limited audience of people wanting the game, a torrent would probably only stay healthy for a short period of time before succumbing to horrifyingly slow transfer speeds or stagnation. An executable file exists to combine the 2 pieces back into 1. Piece 1 - Piece 2 - Joiner executable Alternately, nameless1~aMT1OzwfeA has created a torrent from the above files which is located here. Extraction - Once you have all 3 files downloaded into a folder, run the executable. You should be left with a 589mb file called Yaminabe Aries.rar. Do this anywhere you want. Open up Yaminabe Aries.rar and you'll be presented with 4 files. Extract them somewhere. You can either burn yaminabe-A.img to a CD, or mount it virtually. Either option will require a seperate program of your choice, and you'll have to figure out how to acomplish this part in realtion to the program you select by yourself. Installation - So, why do you need a guide for this, anyways? What's the need for trickery during the install? Well, let's see what would happen if your tried to install Yaminabe Aries normally. The CD contains a simple setup program. Upon trying to run it, you'll be greeted with what appears to be a standard installation procedure, however... Uhhh... Well, this is helpful! Being a Japanese game, you're certainly not gonna get any help on how to install it here. Okay, so it's pretty obvious that you just need to hit the button with "??(N)>" on it a few times. You'll get pretty far and actually start to install the game until... Ohshi- Whoops. Click OK, and the installer exists. Suddenly, being able to read the installer becomes a lot more important! It should be pointed out, this happens even if you already have the east asian language pack installed. So, what gives? As it turns out, the installer for Yaminabe Aries does not use Unicode. Unicode is a character encoding that makes it possible for Japanese characters to be displayed in Windows without any major changes to the system. Unicode only existed in limited forms on the major versions of Windows available at the time Yaminabe Aries was released. Unicode was implemented fully in XP, which was sadly 2 years after Yaminabe Aries was released. So how do we get around this? Thankfully, Microsoft gives us some tools to work with. If you haven't done so already, we'll be installing support for Japanese in Windows, then we'll tell Windows to display non- unicode programs in Japanese. Then, we'll set up a tool so you can run Yaminabe Aries without having your system set to run non-unicode programs in Japanese. First, we'll assume you're a non-weeaboo and don't already have support for Japanese installed. Navigate to the control panel, and then double click Regional and Language Options. Click on the languages tab, and then check the "Install files for East Asian languages" checkbox. Click ok. You will need to have a Windows XP cd laying around to install the files needed. Steal a friend's CD if you must. Now, click on the advanced tab. In here, there is a drop-down box to select the language you want non-unicode programs to run in. Select Japanese from the list and reboot. Don't worry, your system will still be in English when you reboot. After you've rebooted, run the installer off the cd again. Ahh, much better! If everything worked out right, the installer should now be in Japanese. You'll be able to install the game now and play it without any errors. However, you may have some other non-unicode programs (or even drivers!) on your computer. They'll now be in Japanese! This obviously won't work out. But if you turn off non-unicode support, you won't be able to play the game. So, what to do? Thankfully for us, Microsoft has made a program called "AppLocale" that will allow you to run non-unicode programs in any language without having to change the non-unicode option in the control panel. To download it, click here. After you've changed your system back to your language of choice, run AppLocale (It's in the start menu). It will ask you for the location of the program you want to run. Navigate to C:\Program Files\CIRCUS\é—‡é‹Aries and then select é—‡é‹Aries.exe. Sadly, the Add/Remove programs feature doesn't work with Yaminabe Aries ![]() On the next screen, select the option for Japanese, which is the very last option on the drop-down box. my hot tashiro yu wallpaper is avaliable on request On the next screen, you'll have an option to create a shortcut to the program running with AppLocale in the AppLocale folder in the Start Menu. Playing - So, you finally have Yaminabe Aries installed on your computer. Hooray! How does it play? You will need the CD to play. When the game starts, it will come up with this launcher window. You can either select to run in windowed mode or fullscreen. I'm unsure what the bottom left option does exactly, but I think it has something to do with DirectX. Either way, if I don't have the option in there checked, my computer runs the game pretty damn horribly. With it though, it's smooth as 60fps. The bottom right option quits. So, how does Tail Tale play? Well, this sums it up pretty well: AGH WALL OF TEXT Text. And tons of it. There's enough text here to fill up a book. Most all the CG from the game has already been posted on the internet, so be prepared to see a lot this and not a lot of nothing new. While in-game, hitting escape will bring up a small menu on the bottom right where you can change some options including how fast the text scrolls by. Hitting the spacebar will remove all the text from the screen, allowing you the view the CG and backgrounds unobscured. After you've "beaten" it once, when you replay the game you'll be able to skip chapters to try and get different endings. Yaminabe also has 2 other non-furry games, but this will likely be of little interest to most people. There's a CG gallery where you can view all the CG you've seen so far, and a mini-game that's similar to the bomb dropping mini-game from New Super Mario Brothers...but with items! It's actually not bad, but not being able to understand the instructions makes it bothersome after you get past the first few levels.
