| Beginner | torrent help... k, i have no idea to get to torrents and i have no idea what im supposed to do when i get to one. some questions in mind----1 do i need points to download a torrent? 2 do i need a special program to download torrents? 3 what are torrents exactly? please someone answer! ![]()

| Forum Goderator | 1. You don't need point to download a torrent off DAT. To browse the torrents on DAT, just go to http://www.datorrents.com, and browse or search for the torrent you want. Every torrent site runs or has its own rules for who gets access to the torrents or who is allowed to download them, so I can only tell you DAT has no such rules, I can't tell you what applies to every site. 2. (and 3) .torrent files are files with data on how to download the files/movies/games you want, using the bittorrent protocol. At the very least, you'll need to install basic bittorrent to run torrent, but many use other bittorrent clients (such as Azureus, utorrent, bittornado) to run because they have a better graphical user interface and more options.

| Beginner | okay! um, so i was havin trouble earlier with torrents but now i think i got it. but the only thing thats stopping me(i still dont have a single downloaded torrent) is my firewall. anyone know EASY ways to disable the firewall?

If it's a NAT router like those made by Linksys and D-Link etc, you'll need to configure port forwarding. Check your bittorrent programs setting for which port it listens on and setup port forwarding to allow incoming connections on that port. I merged your new thread into this one since they were related. | |
