1. You don't need point to download a torrent off DAT. To browse the torrents on DAT, just go to http://www.datorrents.com, and browse or search for the torrent you want.

Every torrent site runs or has its own rules for who gets access to the torrents or who is allowed to download them, so I can only tell you DAT has no such rules, I can't tell you what applies to every site.

2. (and 3) .torrent files are files with data on how to download the files/movies/games you want, using the bittorrent protocol. At the very least, you'll need to install basic bittorrent to run torrent, but many use other bittorrent clients (such as Azureus, utorrent, bittornado) to run because they have a better graphical user interface and more options.

What did you try to download? It might be a compressed archive format or a disc image of some form. There is also
General Info for Codecs and Players.

Depends on what firewall, if it's software firewall like the one built into windows, Kerio, or ZoneAlarm you'll need to make an exception for the torrent program. Usually they'll make popup and ask you if you want to allow or deny it.

If it's a NAT router like those made by Linksys and D-Link etc, you'll need to configure port forwarding. Check your bittorrent programs setting for which port it listens on and setup port forwarding to allow incoming connections on that port.

I merged your new thread into this one since they were related.

I use a Linksys also and it works great. Just need to go into the settings and set what port you want to use as dl for torrent files.
