IP Address question

I am unsure as to where to put this question so my best guess was to put it here.

I have found that if you click on a url of a member who is an uploader, a seeder or a leecher, that members IP address is listed. I know that the only way to see the status page is if a member is logged in. However, I would rather not have it shown at all. Is there anyway to prohibit some one from viewing the IP address?

Thanks.

P.S. I did do a forum search

I would recommend going into the setting for your account (Click "Your Account" on the main page then the link that says "Click here to adjust your settings") and changing the privacy level to "Strong". I am not sure if that will remove your IP (at least three octets that are displayed) from public view, but I would think of the options avaliable it has the best shot. I believe the IP will always be displayed when you view your own account.

Usually when anyone else views you're account the last octet is xxx out. With only three of four octets people would have a hard time tracing it back to you. Besides when you connect to a peer while download or upload that person can see your full IP either in the client or with utilities included in their OS (netstat in Windows for example) or readily avaliable on the net.

I still think they should hide such information.
I been on the site for 8 weeks now and have ran into a problem already with such information being shown.

Either case I am sure somthing will happen.

ok the only person that can VIEW your ip fully is the admins and the moderators of the site. NO ONE ELSE CAN VIEW YOUR WHOLE IP...the only thing that shows up for otheres who are normal users and unregistered are: for example:

315.46.12.xx.xx

that is all that shows up....nothing more. yeah like they would have time to sit down on there computers and crack your ip....that...is someone with a lot of time on there hands, and i have yet to see any problems like that occure.

If you run a firewall and/or a NAT router and keep your software up to date you'll likely be fine even if someone does take the time to work out your IP. What problems have you ran into?

Aren't you more worried about people seeing it through the torrent client? It's the full IP and whatnot. But yeah, the L33T HAX0Rs have better things to do than going after the small fries.

Here's a program I find useful. Peer Guardian is an open source IP blocker that blocks known bad IPs(not individual people, but sites loading trojans and industrial associations such as MPAA that monitor bt traffic for lawsuits... etc.)

People can see your whole IP when you are seeding or leeching, so this whole thing is moot. If they want to find your whole IP address and you are logged in all they need to do is check the seeder's list (which says your user name) then match the list to the IP's shown on BT.

what do you mean by that? if you're referring to bit torrent(BT) client, then it's not about the tracker site and datorrents has no concern regarding such matters, it's in the client and in the torrent you downloaded, as you know you download on your own risk, if you download a file with less peers, then that match will most likely to come up. however, downloading a torrent file that has many peers, will give someone a hard time to track your subnet and your whole ip.

if you're referring to the torrent info(BT), all full ip's are only viewable by mods and admins of datorrents. if you click on the user name on the seed/leech list, it'll give you as what madhatter stated.

Even with the full IP, trace route only goes as far as the ISP's local server. It's not like they can locate your exact address anyway.
