 Stylish Skins is the best "category" these and others like them fit into I think. It reminds me of the mad scientist genre, or the magitech and/or science fantasy style shows. Looks like a steam powered media player. Very metallic, and wouldn't seem out of place on the set of Stargate SG-1.
