The reason this happens is pretty simple. Because of the sheer volume of images served in the gallery, it's actually 2 different webservers, nginx and apache. Apache mainly handles the page requests, forums, tracker front end, etc. While nginx exists solely for serving images for the gallery and nothing more.
The funny stuff happens when nginx dies, apache at least (more or less) can and does automagically restart, but nginx requires a manual start when that happens. Meaning someone actually has to log in to the server, and start it by hand. So now I am working on a way for the other staff to get ahold of me by pager/sms/cell, but unfortunately because of my school schedule, I am there now a days around 30+ hours a week add that to a semi busy life from the start, and you get the idea... lol
Anyway, I thank you all for your patience while this goes on. Hopefully we will be able to iron everything out so that this doesn't keep happening!~

I would like to extend my personal thanks to you for explaining the problem to us. I've been lurking for the past few weeks, and my frustration hasn't been with the administrators (or whoever fixes the problems and bugs) it's that I never knew what was going on, and just kept hearing "Be patient, we're working on it" which really doesn't help. This is so much more sincere, it explains what the problem is, and why it can't be fixed immediately. And bless your heart for managing both this website and school at the same time. (since I've failed both semesters, I know hectic things can be). Thanks for letting us know, and good luck!
