Dungeon Keeper - One of the best games ever?

Well, I have spent so many hours of my life playing this game before now, and I'm just making the fatal error of installing VMware so I can dual run win 98 and install DK2 all over again...

But just wondered how many other people have actually played this game? And did you enjoy it?

I found it so easy just to pick up at any time, and get completely absorbed by it for hours on end. I have fully completed both games, but the one I am currently downloading has an extra pack of 100 maps included (I think the extension pack was called the Deeper Dungeons..?).

For people who have not played this before, you take on the role of a Dungeon Keeper (duh...). Your role is to build the biggest, and best dungeon to attract the best monsters to fight for you. Starting off with a handful of imps, who dig and build for you, the dungeon soon starts to take form as you add treasure rooms, a hatchery (to feed the beasties), a casino, bedchambers, a torture chamber and many other things.

Each thing that you build attracts a different type of monster. For example, Bile Demons love hatcheries (big and fat and want fed), Warlocks love to read in a library, and the Mistress loves the torture chamber (especially when you throw her in there!).

You must battle the forces of good, and completely wipe them out! It does get quite tricky towards the end, and I spent ages trying to take out certain bosses!

The dark humour of this game is brilliant, and works perfectly with the atmosphere. The graphics are nothing special (they were awesome in their day, but look extremely dated now ). There were rumours about DK3, but as Bullfrog were absorbed by EA, this project seemed to get back lined. Though, there is a new game called "Overlord" being released on the Xbox 360 in a couple of weeks that looks scarily similar....

I would honestly have to say that this is one of my alltime favourite pc games, but then again, I don't really play all that many...

H.

I just started playing it since you mentioned it.It's pretty fun so far. I wouldn't consider it the best but i'm a video game nerd so I have lots to compare it to . It's theme reminds me of Tecmo's Deception (which was one of my favorites ^_^). It has the same "lure heroes into your lair and kill them" theme; though, in Deception it was mostly traps you used but, you could create/summon monsters. If you've never played it you might want to check it out, it'd probably be hard to find now though (old PS1 game).

I might have a look out for that thanks Amalgam!

I'm not really a big gamer, and the only other similar type game I played was Dune (and that was only cause I loved the books >.< ).

Spent about 2 hours playing the game so far this morning, and so many memories coming back! I love the voiceover guy who seems to read the entire script with such disgust in his voice! I love it
