Berserk

Without a doubt, Kentaro Mieda has crafted the best manga in comic history. No other comes close to this guy's art and storyline!

I'm curious if someone is familiar with when he schedules his releases, I'm just dyin' to get my hands on Vol. 31.

That is a bold statement man, I admit it is good stuff but calling anything as subjective as anime the "best ever" is impossible.

What are you saying? This is a MANGA forum! Anime is simply put the animated/cartoon form of manga, and I'm expressing that Berserk is the best manga created.

Now gimmie a comment with some meaning to it, like: "I feel that ----- is byfar a better manga than Beserk"...something that actually makes sense.

Logically nothing can be called the best because manga and anime (and just about everything else) is ubber subjective (manga encompasses a very diverse range of subjects and themes so a person who reads only comedies would never say that a action series was the best and so on) so no consensus can ever be reached.

But for the sake of arguement I will discuss some different series. Death Note is about 100000 times better written then Beserk because Death Note manages to make every single chapter matter and because the protagonist is technically also the antagonist (you can never come to fully hate or love him). If we are talking art then I would say that Angel Sanctuary beats Beserk. Trinity Blood and X have better stories and look better then Beserk. If we wanted to look at only action series then Bleach and Battle Angel would both beat Beserk. I am a huge fan of BLAME! and Rozen Maiden so I think they are both better then Beserk as well. I have read 176 different series, so something like trying to point to one manga as "the best" seems pointless. Beserk is good, but it never manages to rise near to the level of excellence that seperates a ok series from a masterpiece. Does that make enough sense for you?

I savor intelligent discussions, rather than take comments from boneheads. I'll definitely check out a few of them mangas you've mentioned.

I was first heavy with Hokuto no Ken, Lone Wolf & Cub, Battle Royale and Gantz before I became obsessed with Berserk...but some of the series you mentioned seem decent enough to look at.

"Rah rah rah", It was absolutley fan-motherfucking-orgasm-iducing-tastic up till the eclipse ( somewhere like, volumes 1-15?), then he tried making it more like other mainstream garbage such as Inu Yasha and other trash, which basically was like taking a big fat dump on the series. And don't even give me that shit about how he was just "evolving" the charcters and such by making Gats a giant pussy and sticking in a bunch of stupid gimmick shit like magic powers, and personally, I HATE the band of freaks that follow him around (after eclipse), and I HATE how the mother fucking later and newer issues are crammed full of crap such as taking 6 goddamn pages to explain some dumb ass magic spell or other rubbish. And Skull Knight can go fuck himself, I swear, he might as well just come in, say somehting like "Hi everyone! A penny saved is a penny earned!", and then leave! Cause he's a douche!

LOL...I agree with you a bit ReducedFat. I do love Berserk, but it *is* far too tedious...The first fifteen volumes were better, I agree. I just loved how utterly depressing and dark it was, then the pixy character would pop up and in effect say "Hey, look! I'm cute! You shouldn't cut your wrists out of despair after all!" Most manga/anime doesn't have such a balance of angst and humor. It keeps them both from becoming irritating.

I hate how Griffith isn't really in the series anymore. He was my favorite character. And, I hate it how he somehow seems to love the princess all of sudden, when it was stated he only had sex with her because he was upset Gats left, and that he just wanted to use her to be king. Maybe he is still using her? But that STILL hasn't been explained. Again, the manga wastes way too much time on secondary characters and events and ignores the bigger storyline. Not like I hate any of the characters, though, but there is just way too much crap going on at one time. Still can't complain too much, though.

I quite enjoyed the Berserk manga (what I read of it anyway), but I do agree with BloodyAugust. The story (or the start of it), was what made it such an enjoyable manga. I have to say for storyline development and darkness, I love reading the Gantz manga. It is a lot deeper than Berserk, but you still get all of the killing

All of the big anime news sites have no mention of a second series, in fact an animenewsnetwork, there has not been a news announcement for this series in 3 years ._.

Are you sure its a second series, and not just a second boxset...?
