| Manga Vs. Anime: Which Tends To Kick More Arse? If there is a manga and an anime of the same series, I tend to like the manga more. Here are my defense and weaknesses: Pros 1) Bleach The manga is much grittier and has more action, the characters are more likable too; they have more personality. Plus, the Bleach anime has an absolutely horrendous animator, DBZ-esque if you will. Sometimes characters just stand on screen for 5 entire minutes and the only movement is their mouthes. Add in the fact that the opening and ending credits are done with more skill than three entire episodes put together, and there you go. 2) Hellsing For starters, the manga is still going. That's a plus. Also, the manga has a MUCH crazier story, involving Nazi vampires near the middle. I can't stress enough how much better the manga is (Father Alexander Anderson FTW!). 3) Chrono Crusade Oh, Jesus Christ, the English voice actors hurt; my eardrums just wanna stab themselves. Sure, switching on the subtitles for the Japanese dub makes it better, but sometimes you just want to hear things said in your own native language. The animation in the anime is good, but the story differs a little near the end and has nearly everyone die (a FEW are spared in the manga, but only a few...) Cons 1) Cowboy Bebop A show that is nothing without its soundtrack. Reading it just isn't the same; the ambiance just isn't there without the music, voice acting and silky smooth animation. Also, I loved the movie, SO THERE, nya nya! Disagree with me if you want, I don't really care :3 |

| Experienced ![]() ![]() | Well I think both format has their pros and cons. Manga: 1.) It has more depth and most of the time it tends to be longer than it's anime counterpart, because for the most part most manga to anime transitions tends to be shoehorned to fit 12-13 to 24-26 episodes. ex. Berserk, Rave Master, Flame of Recca etc. Their anime counterpart are short compared to the manga, henced most fans feel that these animes are incomplete. 2.) Another advantage of Manga is that it has none of the fillers that plague it's anime series counterpart. ex. Bleach, Naruto (imo the biggest offender) etc. 3.) Another advantage of Manga is that it's faster than it's anime counterpart. You can find what's going on next about your favorite anime if you read it's manga counterpart. ex. Most ongoing Shonen Anime series like Bleach, One Piece, Naruto etc. Anime: 1.) Visuals- Animes specially OVAs and Movies have animation that are imposible to replicate on a manga. ex. Karas, Appleseed movie 1 and 2 etc. 2A.) Audio- Some animes have strong soundtrack that is almost synonymous with the anime, that without it the anime would not be the same. ex. Cowboy Bebop (A great example already made by BlankSpaces), Macross, Samurai X etc. 3.) Conversion: Because of Animes audio/visual format some animes cannot be done in a Manga format while every Manga can be made into an Anime. ex. Interstella 5555: the 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem an Anime Movie based on Daft Punk's (of http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lH-0s0pRleg ONE MORE TIME fame) Discovery Album another is Count of Monte Cristo, this anime had such a distinct look and texture. I know you could still make an manga series about them, but it would greatly diminish its impact, and it will not retain what made this 2 great. Conclusion: Anime and Manga has both their pros and cons , so imo they are both equal in "Kicking Arse", not only that they work great hand in hand together. So I suggest to most fans, that if you like the anime or the manga try to experience both. 1.) Most of us who have already watched the Anime series first, usually associate most of the anime characters with their VOA (Voiceover Actors) and that's why while we are reading the manga we hear there anime voices in our heads as we read the lines. ex. Slam Dunk: Hanamichi Sakuragi VO is so distinct that when I read the Manga, it's his voice I hear in my head as I read his lines. 2.) Some Mangas and Animes greatly complement each other. ex. Ga-Rei the manga and Ga-Rei Zero the anime. The anime is a prequel to the manga. Giving you a greater understading concerning the Ga-rei universe. Last edited by reigis; 05-15-2009 at 12:55 PM. | Spammer ![]() | I like manga more. They don't have filler, which I hate, even during the actual story line a lot of scenes are extended too long just to take up time. The stories are exactly what the authors intend them to be in the manga, because they make them, when translated to anime it loses some accuracy, some characters aren't portrayed correctly. In addition, the reason anime is good is because the characters move, unlike manga, but unless an anime is choreographed well it is really bad. Sometimes I can tell when they use the same clip over and over during a fight scene. It is difficult to find well choreographed anime. Naruto for example was a great one, all the major fight scenes were done well, but Naruto Shippuuden is a lot worse. If the quality of Naruto was as bad as Shippuuden I wouldn't have liked it at all. Sometimes the dialogue is worse, One Piece for example, everytime something happens in that show, they show every characters individual reaction each time, but they all have the same reaction, if Luffy is shocked or happy or angry or sad the others are to, so whats the point? When I read manga I remember and care about the the entire series, because I am actively participating by reading for and about the characters. But when I watch anime, I remember everything because I am waiting for the boring parts to end, so I only remember the very best parts. Example of this is DBZ, I liked the fight against Raditz, one episodes worth of Kaioshin training (not the 5-6 episodes) that dragged on, and the main Goku-Vegeta fight, but there are a ton of episodes filled with events that I don't really care about, if I read the manga and could get through it in 30 mins of my life in stead of hours upon hours I would remember it better and it would flow better with the rest of the story. |

| Spammer ![]() | Manga is good because the story is more detailed and contains more content, and maybe it's just me but I prefer to read the dialogue so I don't miss anything. (I watch tv w/subtitles also). Sometimes though the manga gets hard to read in big action scenes with the sfx dialogue and big drawn up scenes; also the manga is more detailed in some ways. Anime is great because there is now an audio element added (songs, cute voices,etc.). The colors and smooth animation make it easier on the eye and there are some things that you just can't accomplish with just black ink alone. In the end I would have to go with manga (but it's close)

| If a series has both a manga and anime adaption? Can't really say one is better than the other... I often find whichever came first to be superior to it's counterpart.

| true i think mangas do alot better than animes because of the simple fact is that they don't bs with story arcs that have absolutely nothing with the series or characters example Naruto(before anyone jumps me on this I just feel this way about it) the anime is so far back from the manga that by the time someone who just watches the anime get to the really good parts in the series, the manga may be on to another series with a whole new story and characters. I'd say where I'm at on the manga but it would completely spoil it for someone else so I didn't mention any key parts out of respect. I love anime don't get me wrong but some of the thing in the manga does'nt get intergrated into the anime so that also leads to fans butting heads over who's right and I find that leads to arguments which shouldn't have to happen in the first place. Well I've said my part because I feel the same way on the subject and you do bring up good points. I 've read some of the cowboy bebop manga and it has a big difference from the anime and yes the movie is awesome.
