In order to upload you'll need to get tracker account if you don't already have one. If you need one, goto http://www.datorrents.com and click the Signup link in the upper right hand corner.

As for how to upload you'll need to create a torrent for the files you want to upload. The exact details of which depend somewhat the bittorrent software you're using. If you'll post the name of the software we can probably give you instructions for it.

After you've created the torrent you'll want to upload it to the tracker by logging in and clicking the Upload link at the top of the DaTorrents main page.
Once you're on the upload page give your torrent a title then click the browse button next to the box label torrent file. Find the torrent file you created and click open. You can ignore the part about an NFO file. Once your finish write description of what you're uploading then click upload.

Once you have it on the tracker you'll need to seed it. You can do this by just opening the torrent file you created like you would any other torrent file. Once you open the torrent you'll likely be asked were you want to save it, you should point it to the location of the files you want to upload. The software will check and see the files are already there and begin seeding. It may take a little while for someone to come and download from you.

I already made an account in dattorrents and I was using "Bit Tornado" but a friend told me to change it to "Bit Comet" since it works better.

So in your opinion which should I use, Tornado or Comet?
so far I'm downloading Bit Comet 0.84 so can you tell me how to make the torrent file with it?

A lot of people use "maketorrent" to actually create the torrent file, easily found with google.

I would not recommend bitcomet, as many torrent sites now ban it and it has recently been banned from azureus as it is so easily hacked and stats can be played with. It, in my opinion, is not as good as utorrent.

You can find maketorrent here.

I've not used bit tornado and I only briefly used BitComet cause it didn't seem to report stats, which isn't really problem now since DaT no longer tracks them. As Kirarin said, some trackers have banned BitComet since it doesn't alway play nice.

I found the following instructions on BitComets website:
Quote:
1. The easiest way is to drag&drop the file or directory to BitComet window, or you can go to File >> Create a Torrent... (Ctrl+M), or Hit 'Maker' in the toolbar. All these bring up the make torrent GUI.
2. Fill in the fields.
* If you do not use drag&drop, the source file entry is empty and need to be filled: In the General tab, choose Single file or Directory (Multi-Files). Click Browse to point to the file or directory.
* Put in the announce URL in Tracker Server box. It usually can be found on the upload page of a tracker.
* (Optional)In the next box, the piece size can be chosen. It it recommended to leave it on auto.
* (Optional)Check Generate .torrent File and find where it will be saved. (same directory by default)
* (Optional)In the optional Comments tab, type in information if you like.
3. Hit O.K.
4. Start the seeding task.
You can find them here under the How To section.

The Announce URL for DaT's tracker is http://tracker.datorrents.com:6969/announce.php

If you have a router you may need to configure port forwarding before anyone will be able to download from you.

The process for creating a torrent with uTorrent is similar.
Goto File and choose Create New Torrent
Then add the files or entire folder you want to upload in the section labeled Select Source.

Copy http://tracker.datorrents.com:6969/announce.php into the box labeled trackers

check the box that says Start seeding, then click create and save.

Then upload the torrent you created to the tracker.

I've not used Tomato Torrent, but I imagine, if it has the ability to create a torrent, there is a menu option that says something to the effect of "create a torrent". The steps are usually pretty much same once you've found option to create a torrent. You tell it the announce URL for the tracker and what file or files you want to include and then create the torrent file, after that it's a matter of uploading it and seeding.

As for slow download speeds, if you're behind a router you'll need to setup port forward (see link above). It could also just be a slow torrent.

Tomato

Thanks! It somehow just worked when I tried in a wireless location, I guess it's faster there than my ethernet at home. One more question, thanks!

So, after two hours (is that a reasonable time for 718 MB?) it downloaded, and it was fine, but now it's in a zip file- are there just some files cannot be open on macs?

Thanks for your time!
