IRC - Where it all happens

Hey guys, a lot of the staff has been noticing the increase in "general chat" between posts on the forums, which, yes has become rather spammy, so we invite you to irc, a medium where you can interact with more users and even the infamous staff here at datorrents!

To join irc and chat you can either use an irc client such as mirc for windows, xchat for mac and linux or a web based client, which is far simpler for new people

Click here for the webclient, put in your nick and the channel #datorrents-chat and away you go!

And if you feel more comfortable using a client or learning here is a small tutorial for you. Click here to read.

And don't forget, those of us who use Firefox can simply install the addon ChatZilla. It's very easy to use and you just click a button on your browser to start it. I traded in mIRC for ChatZilla.

I know a couple of people have struggled with the tutorial a little, and in simple mirc terms:

1. Download and install the client.

2. In the main mirc window type /server irc.deltaanime.net

3. It will then connect to the main server. The best thing to do next is to register your nick. To do this, type /ns register <password> <email>

4. Each time you join with that nickname now, you just need to enter your password by typing /ns identify <password>

5. Now to join a channel, type /join #datorrents-chat. There are other channels, such as #thestaff (where you can come for help, but please no idling), #datorrents (where the bots hangout and you can download animu and many other things), #thepub (general chat and spam channel) and many other channels to choose from.

6. You may be prompted by windows to allow mirc to access the internet. This is fine, and mirc usually uses port 6667 (if you need to forward the port on the firewall).

7. Safety first... Yes, you can send and download files from people, but do not accept files from people you do not know. There are malicious people out there who will try and send viruses, but like the rest of the internet, a little common sense always prevails. One of the best pieces of advice given to me was to set in the options - dcc to ask before accepting a file. DO NOT AUTO ACCEPT FROM ALL USERS >.<

8. General commands:

/me says hi (will show in a different colour as an action)
/join #channel (allows you to join another channel in a seperate window)
/away <message> leaves an away message so others know what you're up to. Dissapears when you start typing again
/quit <message> Does exactly what it says on the tin
/msg <nickname> Allows you to leave a message for the user
/notice <nick> <message> Sends a private message to the user, but shows in their current window (only to them though)
/ignore <nick> If someone is ticking you off that badly.....

9. There are many other things you can do with the client, but this is just a place to start. There is always #thestaff you can join if you have any issues, or if you want to learn more. If you're still struggling after this, please feel to pm any of the mods for help, as we're usually idling in irc anyway.

C'mon guys, stop by and chat with us on IRC! Its really easy if you dont want to install irc! Just go to:
daIRC Chat
put in your nick, and put in #datorrents-chat as the channel and go for it! We have a uno bot and we have lots of interesting convos! Stop by and join in the community fun!

For those who DO use irc... the server is irc.deltaanime.net , same channel!

... really i'm not so scary that everyone has to stay away....

It might just be me and this stupid internet and/or laptop of mine, but is anyone else having troubles with mIRC?.... Ever since yesterday it's not connecting me to the server and just sits there retrying for like ever until I finally give up.. ;_; It's me isn't it.. u.u lol.

Hmm... I use it all the time. But sometimes it does do that to me once then it connects. Is something wrong with your internet?

I know this an old thread, but I am giving it a little bump in hopes of getting more people interested in DaT's IRC channels.

Hm, I'm having the same issue as lost rose with mine not connecting. Odd. I'll try another method and see what happens.
