Well, lower peer counts would mean that there won't be as much need to seed (rhyme completely unintentional; sorry) which would lead to dead torrents. But if a torrent was unpopular, then it would be dead either way -- with or without a large "community."

Completely Public:
More leechers would mean that more peers would be relying on a few seeds. There's really no way to avoid this and is seen a lot in other sites.

So think of it this way: would you rather seed for some idiot hit-and-run leecher and keep your computer/laptop on all night? Or would you rather seed occasionally, usually for members that keep their ratios above 1?

Ya know, I really hate to be a *****, but with you guys, its damned if we do and damned if we dont. We cant get the ratios to work, you guys throw a bitchfest. We try to do something else instead, you guys throw a bitchfest. I'm going to leave it at that but I could say plenty about the lack of help and the lack of funds.... and you ppl have the audacity to complain. Its truely amazing.
Anyways, the problem I see with a private tracker is that most anime communities HAVE private trackers and they have no reason to use ours. I just dont see it being benificial in any way.

No one heard me bitching about the tracker issues but that is besides the point. The Idea of ratio is to enforece good behavoiur not how big someones ratio is, it's to keep ratios from being to small which is what you get in a public tracker that doesn't require ratio.

I can see benefits in either way of doing it, but the problem is DaT developers can't get ratios to be reliable with the normal number of peers on the site (of course you have to subtract external torrents), and from what I understand it's not from lack of trying. So while it might be true that enforcing ratios help keep torrents alive and better seeded, it's of absolutely no value if it can't be made to work. LPOs can't ban leechers if they can't get reasonably accurate stats, and I know that the first time we banned someone on faulty stats there would be a bitchfest (to borrow Shauna's term). I've enjoyed the tracker in my year plus here at DaT, but we may have to face the fact it's not practical to maintain with the number of DaT users and current resources. Maybe if there were more funds avaliable they could get more servers to spread the load and make it work. It is fairly easy to point out flaws, but if you want to keep DaT the way it is now, solutions are needed. If anyone has suggestions for making the current system work, now is the time speak up.

Barring an alternative I support the change.

My seeds are on a queue rotation system, if i get banned because the torrent stops as soon as its done, that would kind of suck.

Im all for a non ratio system though, it will stop people from downloading from the main tracker (the one that says dont seed on another tracker), and putting it on da, esentialy killing the official torrent.
Also the ratio system is to easy to spoof, no matter how private you make it.

If its not open, It also needs to identify by user, not ip addres, i have a whole network of users behind my ip, any one of them could get me banned.

Hope the new system, has an auto delete child porn filter, and reports their ip address to the autorities.

just like prh state, lpo and the banning of leechers would be accomplished IF the stats and rations were working correctly. the ratios have not been working correctly and we have not been banning for over a month which means that leechers have been having a field day (if u want to believe that which i have not seen) since we stopped.
by going to an index tracker, we can at least offer an accesible location for all that we currently offer, we would still offer torrents being monitored in dat (without the ratios) and as a community we can spread the word that seeding is the 1st and most important part.
it would also lead to better connectivity as so many have often complained of errors of not conecting to tracker.
i say yes to change, let everyone that enjoys anime find in datorrents an indexer where the can get what they want and stay for more.

We can get it to work, but it would be no more effective than the current ratio system in place.

i said no due to the fact that i also hate the hit and run leechers. there are enough sites for that and i enjoy knowing that after seeding a file for 2 months i wont be the only one left. this site, boxtorrent, and demenoid are the only 3 sites i really use.

ok i know ive bitched about some of the problems but i would think you as the mod's and admins would like feedback if problems arise and i know it sounds like we are a ungreatful bunch of wetbehind the ear little ****balls and some times i can say yep thats us but some of what we say is right and needed to be said

and i know ive said some of the damned if we do damned if we dont rants

but dont get me wrong i love this site eversense i stumpled accross it a while back as its been a great resourse of older compleate anime series and well some "other stuff" and i will still be part of this commuinty regardless of what happens with the tracker thou i hope its for the better

I see, then I misunderstood the problem. Thanks for clarifying.
