Well honestly, without fixed ratios, which is seeming to be alot harder to fix than we thought, its gunna be the same anyways. Private tracker? Bad idea. Why? because most groups already HAVE their own private tracker, they have no r eason to use ours. When I hit something thats on a private tracker I usually just say screw it and get it elsewhere. This is only gunna cause DAT to go DOWN in number instead of up. Im all for the indexing idea as I think it will help DAT to grow as a community. And thats what is important.

ok i see your point and well it kinda makes sense going privite could hurt the growth and i should take that into consideration but its hard to when you think about how you can seed some stuff for over a week and some how your still the only seed and you still have alot of people after what you got

i dont think going privite would solve everything on every issiue but i think going full public would create new ones well thats just my own 2 brain cells worth of though

lol well its always going to be that way, not everyone is giving in return, you have to take the good with the bad. i seed alot and alot of the times im one of the only seeders and thats fine with me cuz i learned to take it how it goes. i dont do it for the ratio or anything else, i do it cuz i like to share and to keep the anime community alive.

i dont do it for the ratio ( my standard rate is 200%) but it just gets on my nerves when seed something in the 5gig range ( arverage size of a 24~26 ep seaons range) twice over and that takes me about a week to do i find that not only is there no seeds on but me there is not even a full 100% advaibly with out me so i keep seeding it and when i see some one just about done one day and the next they are gone and dont help what took me forever to spread out its just rather frustarting for me to see it happen all the time

Noble~ ^^ But it is really annoying when you're the only seed for weeks. The last place I uploaded torrents, I was the only seed for about 3 months and about 15 unregistered users were leeching everytime I logged on, which is why I had to track/ban IPs with Azureus. Not everyone remembers who constantly leeches off them. If we have to take the good with the bad, then with a private tracker, we might not have as big of a community as a public one (bad), but that would ensure proper ratios (good) and none of that solo-seeding crap (good).

Well i'd have to say that having no ratio tracking will simple mean everyone will leech, if they can leech they will leech, this was proven in the early days of dat before good ratios where enforced.

The only reliable way to have ratios is via passkey system, which is not designed with a public site in mind, and would only work on a members only site, the peers count would go down if dat when members only, at least in the short term.

Also in my opinion high peer counts of leechers in no way benfits the community, its the usuall case of "whats more important, Quality or Quanity?".

There's two options, go completly public with no ratios lots of leechers, and in my opinion no community, or go members only with a lower peers counts. Neither option is perfect.

Basically dat would be a tracker as it is now, and auto list external anime sites, where as atm ppl upload external torrents, that step would be removed as it would be done automatically. There would still be members and public tracking same as now. The only thing we need is ratio tracking, and that'll be perfect, yes?.

I know u'll never have perfect ratio tracking, but something is better than noting.

if we went members only, registration would be fully public all the time, so then users don't need to wait for reg to open, or for invitations.

I'm not on a tracker never have been that I know of? I do feed the image gallery everyday because I just like to upload pics to be seen. How would this new way affect me? Would there still be a gallery and would I still be able to upload pics? I'm not a techy and don't even try to understand it but I think the ones that have been faithful shouldn't be shut out either if thats going to happen.

How are you goiong to have a community if all you are is an index? What incentive is there to be part of a community if you can leech all you want to and never pay the consequences?

I don't think going private is any answer.
