Okay, confusing title, but I mean the United States of America vs the United states of Asia (see what I did there

)

Anyways, whilst browsing imdb, I found a thread about asian movies that were undergoing the American makeover. Here we go, get ready to cringe:

The Departed (Infernal Affairs) - Completed
Time to Kill (Bangkok Dangerous) - Filming
One Missed Call - Filming
The Eye - Pre-production

In Utero (The Eye 2) - Announced

The Mission - Announced
Shutter - Announced

I was honestly gutted when I saw the remake of Kairo (pulse). And Seven Samurai...? Oldboy? There are certain things that should not be touched, and asian cinema is one of these things.

If you read about "The Ring" now, there are 2 definite camps. Us and Them. I think it depends partly on which you saw first, and how open you are to reading subtitles, but I find the subtle Japanese approach much scarier than the American sledgehammer angle.

So, what do you think about American vs Asian cinema when it comes to remakes? Should they leave well alone?

I say leave it alone. Take every single video game to movie make. They sucked, horribly so, too. Enough of remakes, I tire of the garbage.

I am not much for "Americanized" versions of foreign movies. If it's any indication I haven't been to a theater in 8 years and I don't own any American movies on DVD.

I really don't care. Since I've already seen the Japanese version, I'm not going to rush out and see the American version. If they do a decent job, then I'll watch it. Otherwise, I'll ignore it.

I don't know how the new version of "The House of Wax" was but I know some of my friends went just to see Paris Hilton die. But, still, it had better be worth since I think those are two films that definetly should NOT be remade in anyway.

Well they proberly re-made all the old films they've released so far and made sqeauls to drain the life out of orginals, so I'm not surprised by them doing remake's of asian films.

Hollywood has no imagination nowadays anyway
