I've seen this done before. Squirrels are intelligent, at least as far as puzzle solving goes. Each stage/platform can only be accessed from the previous one, except for the first of course, and food is only placed at the end. I think what I saw was on Discovery, TLC, or Animal Planet.

Hmmmm... and some ppl say that animals are not intelligent.

I remember seeing that on tv when I was younger. It would take the little guys days to figure it all out, but they would manage to complete another section each day. Quite often though, they would fall off and have to start over
