| Goddess of DaTorrents | PS3: Worth the money? Or a waste? What do you think about the upcoming ps3? Worth it to shell out 600-700 dollars? Or a total waste of your cash? Also, why do you think that? Personally, I think it depends on the games and quality of the games that come out. But with this talk of not being able to TRADE or sell back ps3 games... I wouldnt buy it if that happened.

| Special Member | Ps3 will be good after few years... The thing that sony sells better than it's rivals is because they legit modchips... most probably, modchips will be out for ps3 as well, even if ps3 is bd-rom format, the bypass methods will have to go through the system itself. sony legits modchips because for some reason(accdng to some websites), sony is challenged to accept the fact that a system will sell better in using anti protection system. as long as many good and remarkable titles come out for ps3, many consumers will try to get a hold of the unit. the only thing that sony holds when someone uses a modchip is that modchips damage systems because the schematic might not support the power to be supplied for the modchip. thus if the schematic is damaged, the owner has no other choice but to get a new unit. but still sony didnt say that they support it or recommend it. unlike sony, microsoft stated that "whoever reverse engineer x360's system will get a suing from microsoft.", although just recently, x360 protection has been hacked, and able to boot back up games. but for now, ps3 is not a good idea to get, probably after few exploits have been out then it'll be worth the money... what im planning is that i'll go get a copy of those games that i like then wait after a few months to get the unit. because i dont like the greatest hits versions... ![]() Last edited by vincent_10_27 : 07-06-2006 at 10:28 PM. |

| I think the top people at Sony are smoking crack, expecting me to shell out $600 then pay up to $105 (they offically said early this week that prices for games can range from $65 to $105 on some games) for some games when I do not even have a big flat screen HD tv is crazy. They have lost sight of their target audience here, I know $2500 60 inch plasma screens are sweet but what percentage of the total market has all that? And whilst Blueray is neat, no game is going to ever be made that takes up even half of the max space they can hold so what is the point when the friggin Blueray drive adds $200 onto the system? I have never watched a DVD on my PS2 and do not expect to watch any Blueray DVD's on it anytime soon. What a waist, if they had only cut the Blueray and dropped the price to $450 it would kill the Xbox 360 and the Wii sideways, now it is all up for grabs. | |

actually, the point of having a BD-Drive for ps3 is that, yes, for BD Movie Playback...PS3 will be your choice in getting a BD Player than to buy a standalone one...recently, i went to bestbuy and a Standalone BD Player costs $1000...so why bother getting a standalone BD Player if PS3 will cost $600... And the purpose of BD is to enable HD scan of 1080p...A two hour movie fits exactly on a 25gb while displaying the said resolution...and probably, most games for ps3 will only go for the 25gb disc, and it'll take about many years before developers will need the 50gb and 100gb bd-medias for games...and developers will use the almost 50-75% of the 25gb space for upscaling the pictures...this will also let the ps3 have a better frame rate...if you are talking about the 50/100gb bdrom then, yeah, games will not take 50% of the capacity. i agree that sony wants us to spend more...and i hate that idea. but losing too much hope will end you to disappointment...i have brought an 19" HDTV for $600 and it can go up to 1080p it's enough for me to play ps3...not like the 60 inch hdtv...what will i do with a 60inch? if you are gonna spend $2500 for a tv, then i'd rather buy a small hdtv like mine and spend the rest for my house... and it's probably only you but i know some people who still watch dvd on their ps2... it's not like sony's forcing you to get an hdtv. hdtv will be recommended but not required. ps3 will still have the good old composite av outputs so meaning you can still use your good old edtv for playing ps3...you're just ignoring the small details and ending up losing hope... | |

| Not really sure whether to buy or not because it's way too expansive and you won't be able to get much game to play for PS3 too.........The game is aslo freaking expansive, they expect people to pay 60~120 dolar to play a game, after bored of the game then the game will go in the trash can........I will wait 2 or 3 more years later then only consider buying it because now aslo doesn't have much time for games | |

| $600 for a console and $100 per game? No thanks. Who'd pay that much for a system that would be out of date in a year? I'll stick to PC, you know... with real games. It cost $150 to get an up to date graphics card. TV resultion is locked at an unchangeable 640x480, which is what all current consoles run on (explains how PS2 can run anything with such low specs). It's not worth playing if you don't buy a hdtv for it. ![]() | |

| Goddess of DaTorrents | if something really spectacular comes out I will definately consider it. but for me, the gaming fun ends with xenosaga. I mean, i will play other games, but nothing else has me that into it that i have to reserve a copy and whatnot :P

Posts: 1,078 | I am with Shauna on this. Unless a game or two comes out for it that I want really badly, I am not going to invest in this. I can find a lot of other things that I want for $600 than a high-performance console. Heh, I didn't even think of getting a PS2 until the .hack games came so... will pass on the PS3. For now at least.

| Personally, I will hold off on the PS3 I might get it in a year or so. But it may have early problems like the PS2 did which is one of the other reasons i'm holding off the system. I agree the price is a bit much and will take a long while to go down even paying 60 to 100 for a game is a bit much. 60 isn't far from 50 but when paying for a 600 dollar system the price should stay 50. | |
