I'm not really familiar with danbooru or gelbooru, but I can see how a conversion can be a gigantic coding nightmare. Seeing as I'm somewhat split for either upgrading Photopost or doing a conversion, I'm withholding my vote for now.

Being to my lazy nature, i would say either keep it the same or upgrade current image board.

If it wasnt for my lasy nature, i would probably say Gelbooru, depending on performance and how user-friendly it is.

my hats off to you ichigo, it is quite obvious you put a lot of research into this indeed! it also looks like you covered most of the angles (at least the angles i would be worried about lol), and as you stated, my main concern with the danbooru/gelbooru engine is that tagging is key to keeping the system running smooth. i actually get a lot of my artist pics from danbooru, espeically the ones of artists who are on pixiv.net (think of it as a japanese art community kinda similar to deviant art). now dont get me wrong, i personally think its a good idea (especially if this means bigger files can be uploaded.. like gifs lol) but people would have to get use to terminologies as well, if they want to really be able to find what there looking for. hmm i guess it really depends on the desired result in the end. i guess the easiest thing (especially for those who have no qualms with the current system) would just be to upgrade the current system, and deal with the bugs that it might bring with it. on the other hand, i personally think that switching to a danbooru type system would be the overall best deal (especially for the mods n such) in the end. well, whatever you guys decide is fine with me, though since its a poll, im gonna go with the danbooru option. i only ask that you avoid the gelbooru choice since it just seems like a cluttered version of danbooru (they dont even have color coding, so you cant really tell if its just a description for the pic, the name of the artist, or the name of the series it belongs to.. and that can just get tiresome lol)

I do not know if my views are still valid here, since the poll is already closed, but I still would like to offer my 2 cents:

First off, I really like our gallery, and as much as possible I would like to keep it as it is. The only thing I would like to have is, for members to have the ability to add tags and comments to the pictures, not necessarily removing/editing the tags made by the uploader, but as an addition made by a more knowledgeable member. Let's face it, most uploaders, do not necessarily know most of their pictures origin, or properly tag them.

As for the the other 2 upgrade options, I prefer Gelbooru. From what I've seen, it is more organize than Danbooru. And base on the poll, this one is easier to implement (Alot=Danbooru VS Fair bit=Gelbooru), unless I misread those statements. If this is really better/easier to work with, for the mods/admins, then I'm all for it.

One last piece of advice, remember the recent problem when the Gallery section was not working (a few weeks? Sorry I'm not clear on how many days it was out). Wouldn't be better to do an upgrade then, at least this time you'll have a better use for the downtime, and most members here I think, would be very amenable to an upgrade as a reason for the long delay in fixing the gallery problem.

So whatever you think is the best for us here in Datorrents, I'll be happy to support it and thanks for reading.

From browsing through Datorrents history, I see that the problems of the Gallery section seems to creep up from time to time. My question is, are Danbooru and Gelbooru a more stable format than the one we currently use for our Gallery? If yes, then I do advocate for the change.

If the site stays free, if the organization is better, then I would say yes...But clearly Danbooru ask you to pay for this stuff. And I don't like Rule34 kind of yaoi site's, because most of the time the stuff is screwed up and not tagged good...

The pole is closed but if I had a vote, I would say keep things the same and update to the latest software. No matter what you choose their will always be problems, and any options in the future will also have their own challenges, that is just how life is. Things work pretty well now, and we can all visit this site regularly and that is something to be thankful for.
