| I've been wanting to buy new RAM because I have only 2 256MB (512MB) DDR , I been thinking in buying 2 Ultra 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory but the specs of my ECS EliteGroup motherboard doesn't seem to say that it supports that type of RAM, but in this website it says is supported (different brand of RAM but is the same type). For some reason the Ultra 1024MB PC5400 DDR2 667MHz Memory is cheaper than Ultra 1024MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Memory, I also was thinking in buying Centon 2048MB PC4200 DDR2 533MHz Memory. Which one would be the best buy and be compatible with my motherboard? | |

| Ultimate Moé | (>_<) Good luck trying to find compatible memory for that board. From my experience, that board barely supports any memory at all. I couldn't use my PNY memory nor my brother's Corsair memory (Corsair was on the list of supported modules but it was a different model number). It seems on the v1.0 boards it didn't matter that you stuck in a different brand of memory than on the supported list. So all in all, the best buy might not be the compatible one at all. I wouldn't be 100% sure that the Ultra or Centon memory would even work.

Posts: 15 | This board doesnt even support PCI express, which is a downfall since most of all newer boards are switching to it ;\ + another down fall it isnt AMD Athlon AM2 Socket ( 940 ) *cries* ' I'm sure its not going to be hard to find compatible RAM for this board, and if ia site tells you its compatible then it probably is... Please refer to your motherboard's manual to be 100% sure.

| Special Member | I would say buy the one that will match your 2x 256 MB RAM. Since you have 4 slots for memory, you can hook up a 2 more sticks. It will be cheaper to get 1x 1 GB and a 1x 512 MB. Well, that's the cheapest suggestion to make. But actually buying RAM depends on you preference and usage of computers. RAM clock speed isn't really going to help much. It actually depends on your machine and applications. For example, if your application likes to waste cycles then it will be more appropriate to get a higher frequency rate to reduce lagging. Though I have to tell you that most applications nowadays really do like to waste lots of cycles(It is somehow a good practice for programmers to allocate memory dynamically to avoid memory thrashing, but in exchange, you provide more cycles). Then again, ask your local dealer or better the manufacturer. They should know more about their products than what most people do. |

Posts: 1,102 | Truth be told I'd tell you to get a new motherboard... It wouldn't be too awfully expensive and it would be your best option. However, I would go with Corsair or OCZ ram. Also G-Skill ram is pretty good. I mean it doesn't have as much publicity as other ram, but I have not had any problems with it. And the site NewEgg is pretty good, I haven't had any trouble with them. Newegg.com - G.SKILL Extreme Series 1GB 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 533 (PC2 4200) Desktop Memory - Retail Seriously though I would upgrade my motherboard though If I were you, and get ram for the new motherboard.

| I just bought this motherboard half a year ago :S by the way the manual says u can only one 2 RAM slots at the time. I like to run many programs at the same time, and around 10 or more Firefox windows open is pretty common for me to use, just by running a few applications in the background I'm already using 527MB/1246MB of page file. If anyone want to read the manual, here is the download link Last edited by darkwizard : 05-19-2007 at 10:38 PM. | |

| Ultimate Moé | ^ Hell, I'm running my dad's old 40GB IDE drive and my comp and it still runs pretty fast. Then again, I have 2GB (2 x 1GB) of PQI Turbo 800MHz and about 64 MB of it used for onboard video. All this good memory sitting in my 2 single-channel DDR2 slots on my wonderful Gigabyte Technology GA-M55plus-S3G mobo. |
