| Experienced | I have used apps before to mod the Login Screen, I did for Half-Life: 2 but it used a program not moding files, (cant remember the name try finding the Half-Life 2 one i used and dont use the HL2 Theme just say you want to make your own) so when the program was corrupted I was screwed but it was a quick fix (Thanks Knoppix Live CD !!) ![]()

| Retired | A free program from Stardock called BootSkin or another program like it is probably going to be easiest method. Obviously you can doing manually as well, if that's what you see the link below. As for changing the login screen. SOFTutorials.com Operating Systems: Windows XP tutorials (it was working when I posted it, hopefully it will be back) Keep in mind there is some degree of risk when modifying system files so read carefully. If you screw up and you have a Windows XP installation disc (not restore disc like you get from Dell etc) you should be able to use the repair feature to replace the modified files. | Dreamer through Time | Bootskin(Stardock/Wincustomize) changes the boot screen that appears soon after you start the computer(login page comes afterwards). It's pretty save to use, if you use any ready-made images from their lists (the safety seems to come at a price; those images seem to be somewhat graphically limited..) To change the login screen, you can use LogonStudio(also from Stardock) in this case it's easy to change and tweak the picture(-properties) with the controls in that program. To change the next screen(before wallpaper); I had the original picture in the following directory;C:\WINDOWS\Web\Wallpaper\ACER.BMP I renamed and made a backup of that image just in case, chose an image I liked, Changed the name of that image to ACER.BMP and left it in the above directory. sincerely, Blanchimont ![]() |

| Ultimate Moé | I've used my trusty Tune-Up Utilities program to change my log on and boot screens. Although it is a bit tricky to use, once you get the hang of it, it becomes really simple (no need to fiddle around with the system files). Just open up the Tune-Up Styler and kinda go from there (you can change the boot screen either by using a downloaded one or using your own wallpaper. To change the log on screen, just select the 'welcome screen' option and go from there.). |
