| The speed and voltage of AGP slots are partially related. 1.5V is NOT 1.5 X. The question is can that card run at 1.5 volts. If so, then it can use that slot at 4X mode, and be fine. But if it only runs at 0.8V then it will not work in the slot. Worst case, the over voltage will destroy the video card. Most decent cards have protections aganst this, but back in the MX serries there were a whole run of cards and motherboard that were destroyed by playing mix and match. In a quick search I found a reference you can look at: http://www.playtool.com/pages/agpcompat/agp.html I completely disagree with his statement, "If an AGP card fits in an AGP expansion slot then they are compatible. But read the rest of this anyway. There are some rare exceptions where motherboard and video card manufacturers don't obey the rules." In my experence, it is very common for manufacturers to ignore the slot standard. I even see major mfg. selling cards that are slotted for "universal" but only actually work in 0.8V slots. That goes for brad new off the shelf equipment. Right now I am a tech for a store chain, so I get to see this sort of thing on a regular basis. | |
