| - | The answer depends on two things. 1.) Did you use WinZips' AES Encryption Feature? 2.) how good was the password. If you used stand Zip password protection, there are tools that can crack the password fairly quickly. If you used the AES encryption your only route is a brute force attack which means having software try a lots of potential passwords. If your password is long enough it become almost impossible to crack with the resources avaliable. If it was all words like you'd find in a dictionary or names then it can probably be cracked pretty quick. Do you normally use fairly random passwords or do you use words etc? I can give you links to software, it's just it might not be feasble depending on how you did it. Last edited by prh99 : 08-03-2006 at 05:31 AM. |

| Experienced | I have had that problem from time to time, well for solving your password problem under windows, i have no idea but for linux, you can check your package manager from apps to use a brute force method and check through unzip to find your password.. if you have a fast machine to do the work wont take any time at all

http://www.picozip.com/prt/index.html http://www.crackpassword.com/products/prs/archives/zip/ You might have leave your computer one for awhile since the above are bruteforce. If the two above don't get it you can get http://www.lostpassword.com/zip.htm which will actually use some well known attacks against regular Zip password protection to crack the key. If you happen to have a copy of one of the documents in the zip file in unprotected form it can crack the password even faster. there is a trial version with some limits. Worst case you have pay for the full version if the trial doesn't work. Last edited by prh99 : 08-03-2006 at 09:53 PM. | |
