Yes, BUT...

as I've studied language more and more I've come to realize something about it. Language is a vessel in which ideas are contained. And the hope is that by saying any combination of words (in any language) or speaking "non-verbal" words the idea is transmitted from you to them. In essence there is truth in a subtitle being more accurate. However, there is also truth in body language and tone being more accurate. If I say "OMG my house blew up" but I'm giggling....well do I really sound distraught? What if I was crying when I said it?

So, point being.... I PREFER subs for so called "accuracy," but a lot of the "accuracy" should come from the voice acting (no matter what language) and the body language.

And really, don't get me wrong, I like dubs too. I like 'em both. It's just that sometimes SOME dubs are poorly done and obnoxious (again: Slayers...wtf?) I'm a little more intelligent than a 12 year old and expect my entertainment to be at a higher linguistic level.

Only dub I've ever really preferred over the sub is Ghost in the Shell: Stand Alone Complex. All the english voices just seem perfect for the characters, and the voice actors themselves are quite talented as well.

Hey me too, though I liked the dubbed version of Fullmetal Alchemist because I felt the voices were great and DBZ too, though I started watching those in english anyway. I don't know why people people keep ragging on Naruto dubs, as far as I'm concerned that's how the characters are supposed to sound in English, in fact the voices are as I had imagined they would be before I even watched the English version. I imagined the voice of the kid for the Oblongs to play Naruto's voice, and they picked somebody that sounds a whole lot like that. Really I think it just depends, too.

Subbed, not dubbed. The English speaking world seems to have a thing with reading subtitles (i would know. it's the only reason my cousins still watch Naruto on CN), so they have lame, corny voice actors try to imitate the japanese voices in English. It sounds odd to fans of the original, and many people end up disliking the anime because of it (i.e. "I hate Naruto! Believe it!"). Translation issues occur, and certain phrases are edited ("One Thousand Birds" instead of "Chidori" and "Believe it" instead of "Dattebayo") to help people understand. Overall, subbing is the way to go. it's the way it was meant to be watched, and it's always better when you hear it.

Original anime with english subtitles only. Can't stand dubs.

you would be better to learn the native language the anime is in so you wouldnt need subtitles and get the things that cant actually be translated into english.. besides the amount of creative editing in these things when they port to english often changes the entire context
