| Special Member | Ghost In The Shell 3D Live Action Film As good as it sounds but it will be produced by American people. Dreamworks studio apparently got the rights to produce this. Read the source for more information. I am surprised and at the same time disappointed that Production I.G. allowed one of their good selling franchise to be touched by a different company. Although I anticipated this a back while when Dreamworks(I believe it was Go Fish on the credits) was distributing the US release of Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence I read the manga, 3 of the 4 novels (I was only able to read the SAC universe ones), watched the 2 films as interpreted by Mamoru Oshii, watched the interpretation of Kenji Kamiyama as well. And I can say that all interpretations are very well done especially Oshii's. Oshii's were quite deep but after you watch his film a couple of times, you'll eventually get the message. Kamiyama's literary references was very astounding and very appropriate for the TV series' message. I am sketchy with the way American people do something about a Japanese franchise. I can only count a number in my hands that did a good job(As a matter of fact, I can't right now). Although the Producers and Writers mentioned were quite known, I can't remove some traumas from past experiences. It's not that Dreamworks will do a bad job, I just hope that their interpretation will be close to Oshii's or Shirow's (I do not think Dreamworks will be doing SAC). If not then it's going to be another "American-Damaged Japanese Goody" as I call it. Either way, what I just said will not make any difference but it's a good way for people to share thoughts, especially for some Ghost In The Shell fan like me. So here's hoping that the new 3-D live action film can live to the fans' expectations. |

| Special Member | As I went through some old blogs and forums that showcase GITS, I saw huge, really huge, disappointments among fans. I can't blame them cause I understand them. What amazed me is that even though the film is not yet in production stage, people are throwing a lot of negative comments right away. Well, I guess Dreamworks have it coming when they decided to make their own interpretation. |

| Experienced | i love all things GitS, but for some reason when i saw this in an anime news headline a while ago, i got worried. i have nothing(much) against the americans, but they do have a habit of screwing up these sort of things. all i can say is atleast Pixar didnt get to produce it. edit: yes i have just realized that i am another of those who are instantly negative, i am ashamed to say. ![]() ![]()

| Experienced | I am also fearful of an american studio taking this for production. Not so much because it will be live action, but because of the horrible hackups they make of books and comics. My worry is that it will end up as another soulless exploit of an excellent story. Some of my favourite examples of ruined stories are Starship Troopers where the entire political framework is ignored. Another is the hatchet job done on The Puppetmaster. Stories that convey such strong political/social messages are extremely powerful and become ideas one remembers for a lifetime. The watered-down pap from Hollywood is forgotten once you leave the smell of the $10 popcorn behind. The effects technology exists to do some fantastic things and to duplicate the GitS universe. Take for example the effects in Underworld and those in Aoen Flux or Ultraviolet. If it can be produced and not lose the real story to hollywood's filtered digestion system, I'm all for it. If they bring it in and it becomes GitS in name only, I will be very sad.

Posts: 1 | Words spreading that DreamWorks have acquired rights to the popular manga/tv series and also said that Steven is going to do his magic on it. ![]() Not yet sure if it's a live-action or a live-action 3d movie. Either one will suffice since Steven is going to do the bossing around. Can't WAIT! ![]() So... Can you think of any animes you like Spielberg to direct and the Western Studios to produce? Death Note would be an idea. Or GUNDAM!!!! LOL!!!! Last edited by heeroyuy202 : 10-27-2008 at 07:17 AM. Reason: To differentiate from other threads of the same topic |

| Beginner | James Cameron is already doing a Battle angel alita movie, (2011 release date) who is also a very talent director, (he did Terminator 2 for those that dont know of his work.) other than that i would like to see a Code Geass Movie, and maybe a Elfen Lied Movie. They did release Gundam live action movies in japan, (they were bad since they were live action japanese, and at the time the technology was pretty poor to try and do Mobile Suits.) They also just recently did a Deathnote live action sequel to teh already made live action first movie, i havnt seen them personally thought. |
