| Broadband Junkie | A Scanner Darkly [2006] ![]() "A Scanner Darkly" is set in suburban Orange County, California in a future where America has lost the war on drugs. When one reluctant undercover cop is ordered to start spying on his friends, he is launched on a paranoid journey into the absurd, where identities and loyalties are impossible to decode. It is a cautionary tale of drug use based on the novel by Philip K. Dick. and his own experiences. Like a graphic novel come to life, "A Scanner Darkly" will use live action photography overlaid with an advanced animation process (interpolated rotoscoping) to create a haunting, highly stylized vision of the future. The technology, first employed in Richard Linklater's 2001 film "Waking Life," has evolved to produce even more emotional impact and detail. Apple H264 Trailers Limited Release: July 7th, 2006 Wider Release: July 28th, 2006 I got some free Preview tickets for this movie so I am going to see it tonight.

| Broadband Junkie | Basically, in the future a new drug called Substace D hits the streets which slowly eats away at peoples minds. The cell-shading like animation in this movie really does a good job of showing on screen the bad drug trips, the acting is very good thoughout, and there are even a few funny parts as well. I would give this movie maybe 3 out of 5 stars though this is a movie that you would really have to watch many times to get everything out of it. This is in no way the best movie out though I am glad I saw it because it is unique but its not a movie for everyone.

| Special Member | mostly 3.5/5 for me, the rotoscoping effect was way better than of "Walking Life". Though something intersting, the film would've been better if they make it not animated like. The story's kinda stupid and weird. Because: (SPOILERS) Bruce has recovered from Substance D addiction and has gotten a source of Substance D as an evidence from the farm. My friend interpreted that as: "Bruce will give the flower to his friends on the rehab center or to his drug household friends." well, as I have said it's kinda weird. |

| I wasn't too thrilled with the movie. I was kind of expecting it to be Sci Fi cause it's a Phil K Dick adaptation, and putting that aside, it was kind of boring. Poor acting accross the board except from Winona Ryder. I wouldn't say it was horrible, but kind of a waste of a movie ticket. Oh, I liked the rotoscoping though. | |
