I would hardly call the US PS3 launch a success considering that only a limited number was released both in the US and Japan and the fact that each console is a loss of about $300-$400 per unit with the sale of about 40K units in Japan and 80K units in the US on release. Games aren't selling that well either considering that large number of PS3 buyers are just buying it for resale online and that a good portion of PS3's launch titles isn't out yet. While Nintendo managed to sell 300K units of Wii with a profit with each one sold and also sold around 150K copies of Zelda Twilight Princess.

Sony may recoupe their loss over time but over all Nintendo won the launch release and has a substantial headstart over Sony and is more than likely going to outpace Microsoft's XBox 360 in time.
