you are running and older version of kernel 2.4 or 2.6, i cant remember exactly what versions actually had alot of trouble with ati but if u update ur kernel to the latest patch you will not have any problems wat so ever unless u didnt compile the driver correctly.
also Emulators run great on linux cause most linux distros eg. gentoo debian or Freebsd (i know its not linux but still a great distro) are not bloated with bullshit like windows is. i just downloaded battlefield 2142 demo and i ran it on cedega through my vida box with less cpu usage and less memory then i did on windows (the graphics card i have to admit was working slightly harder then on windows) my FPS on bf2142 was around 70 at the spawn and 50 in heavy combat.
